I cannot find a posting which resolves the issue I am facing.

I have a POP gmail account as part of a company¹s account. Access to emails
within the website works fine and for last 6 months I have had perfect
stability in accessing it from Powerbook G4. Last Thursday, the login
dropped, returned, then dropped again, now resulting in the relentless,
irreconcilable message ³[AUTH] username and password not accepted².

I have followed all tips I have found on Entourage site, gmail site, as to
remedies, such as resetting, retyping info, changing default port numbers,
changed password, hours of effort, no success. Seems really stuck.

I see that posters have all eventually resolved the issue. I remain though
unable to break  past that message provided above.
