The MRU is used when addressing messages. How to use, manage and clear the Most Recently Used list: <http://www.entourage.mvps.org/glossary/mru.html> In the Address Book itself, you can add the column "Last Correspondence." sort by this column and delete older emails. Personally, I prefer using .rge to export contacts. This gets the categories you have assigned. I have an Automator action that backs up my contacts once a week as a .rge file automatically.
