Helena,
I am also running Entourage 2004.
Yes, there are updates to Entourage 2004. You go to the menu
Help -> Check for Updates.
It's good to do that, but I don't think that an update is the problem. (Try
it, of course.)
By the way, I asked earlier if your Apple Mail.app will work with the same
settings you have been using in Entourage. Does Mail.app work? It it is
not working, we can guess that you have a problem with your Account
settings, not necessarily with Entourage. Make sure you have your Account
settings absolutely correct. The settings are likely to be different
between your dialup settings and your cable modem settings. The mostly
likely difference is "Override default SMTP port".
I forgot to ask also, when you changed from Dialup service to cable modem,
did you change your mail ID, your account ID, your password, or the servers?
Make absolutely sure. If you have a wrong entry there, you will not be able
to connect.
If Apple Mail.app works, and if you are sure that you have the correct
settings in Entourage Account, then...
Why don't you try a new Identity in Entourage. It will open with none of
your existing settings.
First, make sure you know exactly what your ISP settings should be. I
really think that you are missing something. However, it is also suspect
that the change you make in your existing Entourage Account "won't stick."
When you are sure that you have your ISP settings correctly, write them down
exactly. Call them and ask them, one by one, what setting you need. "Do I
need 'SMTP service requires secure connection'? 'Do I need "Override
default SMTP port'?" Etc., one by one.
When you have those settings written down for sure, make a new user Identity
in Entourage.
Entourage menu -> Switch Identity -> Yes -> Are you sure?
-> Yes -> Create New Identity ->
[use a name like "Test Identity 1"] -> OK
When it opens you will see a Setup screen. Don't import anything. Use Setup
to configure your new Account. Or...
Go to Tools -> Accounts, and set up a new Account for your ISP.
See what happens then. If it works, then it seems that you have something
wrong in the Main Identity.
If it does not work, and you are absolutely sure that you have the settings
configured properly, then you will probably need to archive the mail from
your main Identity, uninstall Entourage 2004, and make a fresh installation
from your installer CDs.
You may also want to post this to the Entourage mailing list. I'll make a
copy of this message to the list.
