There have been several odd reports that were fixed by re-instlling Office and/or Snow Leopard, but let's do a test first.
Testing in a new User will quickly tell you if the problem is system wide or if it¹s your User¹s folder that contains the problem. Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts. Switch to the New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching. Test Office there by creating an event with a reminder for a couple of minutes. No need to setup account info for this test. If it works there, then the problem is in your User's folder. If it does not then we need to look to your base files. You can install Snow Leopard over itself like a combo. I would try that first.
