Volume licensing is very different than retail licensing. Retail licensing is both OS-specific and user-specific, both for Office for Windows and Office:Mac. A retail license for Office:Mac 2008 will not work on Office 2007 for Windows, and the reverse is also true. Additionally, one retail box of Office:Mac 2008 Business Edition is tied to the user: that user can only use that license on two Macs (one laptop, one desktop) that they own, and they can't be in use simultaneously (that is, I can't use Word on both of my computers at the same time). The same license of Office:Mac 2008 Business Edition can't be shared with multiple users.
If your client has a number of users who need Office licenses for both platforms, then you'll have to run the numbers to see whether it's more cost-effective to purchase professional-usage licenses at retail for the affected users, or for your client to get a volume license. Cross-platform licenses are rare in retail purchases. For example, I can't find any evidence that Adobe has cross-platform retail licenses. You should direct any additional licensing questions to your Microsoft representative, which you should be able to contact as a certified partner. Your question is really a legal one about licensing for the whole suite, whereas the people who are on this list are looking for (and able to provide) technical answers about using Entourage:Mac. While you're asking your Microsoft rep this kind of question, you might also want to share with them the details of why this client wants to run Office on both platforms. Regards, Nadyne.
