Not sure what the problem really is (obviously the installer fails at some point), but I would be tempted to check on Mactopia.com what updates Office needs on your Mac and manually download and install them. The Office updates have with them the “Microsoft Auto Update“ update that apparently fails to auto-install on your Mac. Manual updates usually have a much higher success rate in this case.
