Yes, you can turn off conversations. For example, I'm using conversations in my main inbox and a couple of folders that get a lot of incoming mail, but I use the standard date-received view for several other folders. >Office 2011 introduces the stupid fargin' stinkin' Ribbon, which we who >are >also using Win Word simply hate. I hope MS offers a preference for "make >it >look like MS Word 2008." Before you jump to a conclusion based on the name "Ribbon", I invite you to give it a try once Office 2011 hits store shelves later this year. We liked the concept of the Ribbon for Office for Windows, but the details of its implementation weren't necessarily appropriate for our Mac users. For example, we have kept our menu structure (in keeping with being a good Mac citizen), so you won't have to worry about not being able to find "print" because it's still exactly where you expect it to be. >The MS Office 2011 program managers like like they're about 18 years old. >They speak of what Mac users want and expect. But I wonder if any one of >them has any experience using MS Office for business purposes. I promise that they're all past the US legal drinking age. ;) Since the video went live yesterday, we've been ribbing them good-naturedly about the comments on YouTube, and they seem to be waffling between being embarrassed by the comments and being pretty pleased that people think that they're 18! That said, it's the job of people like me on the team (and I promise that I left 18 behind quite some time ago) to go out and gain a deep understanding of what Mac users want and expect, and to bring that back to the team to help build a better app that meets our users needs. Even if they were 18 (or 16, or 12, as some comments have suggested), they're not working on our apps in a vacuum, and they're doing it in conjunction with people across multiple disciplines who have a range of experience and expertise. We've joked that we should re-cut the video with some of our (ahem) more advanced members of the team. We've got plenty of people who have been here for at least 15 years, and they're helping our younger team members understand history and so much more.
