I've renamed this thread to reflect these questions.

Rules should work the same in Outlook as they do in Entourage. If MacBU
did not make upgrading from Entourage to Outlook an easy process, it would
be a poor business decision.

Your database will be just like all databases in the past. Only that
version of Entourage will be able to open them. You can import a database
if supported, but you cannot decide at a later date go back and open an
old Identity without the application installed. If still supported you
could import.

So, what to do with old data? Put it in a format that can be used by
multiple applications like the .MBOX format. The Entourage archive (.rge)
file is Entourage specific and I suspect that Outlook will be able to
import those as well. Mail on the other hand would not be able to import a
.rge file. Individual emails and contacts are generally safe, but not a
good format for transferring a large number of items.

Another option is to import your Entourage data in Mail as an archive
source.

I'm not sure how it will be handled, but you should be able to test
Outlook for Mac and then after the test period, go back to Entourage. Just
like with the current demo, you select to "leave on server" if you have a
POP account so it can be downloaded into Entourage too. It's easier to
"test" if you have IMAP.

Hope this helps!
