I will try to clarify my understanding. The Time Machine will back up the
Entourage database; however, it may not restore correct if the application
and related daemon were running during the backup. For this reason, there is
an script called quitall_sl.sh for SuperDuper that quits all Microsoft apps,
including the Microsoft Database Daemon. It works great with SuperDuper;
however, Apple's OS X Time Machine does not support scripting. There is a
Entourage AppleScript called quit_all_Microsoft_applictions that you can use.
I found it works but does not always quit the Microsoft Database Daemon. Per
warnings from Diane and others that know this daemon must be stopped before
backing up or trying to restore from the OS X Time Machine.

I have trained myself to open the OS X Activity Monitor and manually Quit the
Microsoft Database Daemon before the TM does its thing.  Yes, this is a pain;
however, it works and I have been able to restore my 2.9 GB Entourage database
from a Time Machine backup.

It was good to hear the above may not be needed with Outlook; however, I
will not consider transition to Outlook until Microsoft corrects its current
crippled status. By crippled status I am referring to the dimmed out File menu
Save As that prevents users from saving anything to the OS X Finder file
system.
There are some other annoyances but the arrogant failure to integrate Outlook
with the Apple Mac OS X file system is a major show-stopper.

Note this posting is from Apple's Mail.
