Dear yt team
I think yt is ripe for a new feature release (4.4.0), especially with the
recent merge of https://github.com/yt-project/yt/pull/4939 (that will no doubt
be the highlight of the release notes)
Even though there are no strict blockers, there are still a couple items in the
milestone that I'd like us to clear before the release; in particular:
- Adding wheels for the upcoming Python 3.13

- Future proofing Cython build-time compatibility
https://github.com/yt-project/yt/pull/4948
- Deciding if we want to drop support for Python 3.9 now or later

I’ve been managing the milestone as both a record and a Wishlist, not a set of
hard requirements.
If all goes well, I’d like to propose we publish v4.4.0 by the end of September
(i.e., right before Python 3.13.0 final is out).
Please let us know if there’s anything else that you’d really like to see
merged before we cut the release.
