I cannot create eth1 manually (no such device) while wlan0 is recognized with wireless extensions.

Actually the zd1211rw driver doesn't create a device wlan0. In most
cases it will be eth1, you can check with iwconfig. Your device
should be working if you set up the device manually.
Be also warned that we have currently not implemented all the
interfaces required by wireless extensions. That might cause
issues with the standard initialisation mechanisms of some
distributions. We are working on it.
