I have exactly the same problem, which has happened after the update to ubuntu 12.04 I can't see the property of the file .mp4 : choosing properties opens a windows "creating properties". Totem is unable to read file.mp4 After recoding file.mp4 via handbrake, one can see the properties of the new files (file.m4v and file.mkv).

Nautilus: Right clicking on the file and going to "properties" results in a message: "Creating Properties Window..." and nothing happens after that.
