Actually, the difference is in the language....
Chan emphasizes in sync with the life force and wisdom of the universe.
In this sentence, there is no mention of "here and now". Yet, how can
we stay in synchronization without being in the now? Synchronization is
a real time event.
On the other hand, Zen emphasizes "be here and now". It is easy to
interpret to mean pay attention to what is in front of us, which is
incomplete.
Be here and now really means be here and now with both the form and
formless, internal and external, physical and spiritual. Not just what
I am doing or not doing right now, but beyond to include the entire
universe at the same time, in the same instance.
