Hi Bill,

Just  saw this, and thought I'd share.  We had a dialogue about him some time
ago, and I felt then there was something amis. Your astute comment based on
your past interactions with him, made this no real surprise to me.  I think
this is great!  A breath of fresh air! Actually, the zen center there is a
great facility, and can offer  quality zen training. I've just felt that it was
side-tracked for a decade by the whole Big Mind -thing, and Gempo's  conflicted
values, particularly concerning money.

Dear Sangha & Friends,

As many of you know, Genpo Roshi has disrobed as a Soto Zen Buddhist Priest.
He will continue to lead and facilitate Big Mind and work with anyone who
wishes to study with him.  He is going to bring Big Mind as a separate secular
practice, not connected with the Soto Zen Buddhist School, into the world.

Kanzeon Zen Center Utah will be under the leadership and direction of Rich
Taido Christofferson Sensei and the Board of Directors of Kanzeon Zen Center
Utah.  Roshi is naming Taido Sensei as Vice Abbot of the Zen Center.  Roshi
will not be teaching at the Zen Center for an indefinite period of time.

The Zen Center will continue to occupy its two buildings on South Temple
Street, Salt Lake City.

The current website will be separated into two websites: Kanzeon Zen Center
Utah and Big Mind.

All the scheduled events will go on, but Roshi will not participate in the May
Sesshin at the Zen Center, nor the Rohatsu Sesshin in December.  He will lead
the Big Mind 2-day Retreat and the 5-day Big Mind Conference/Retreat in April,
the 5-day retreat in July and 2-day retreat in September, which will be located
at Mt. Solitude at the Bear Trap Lodge, as well as all events and Trainings for
Trainers scheduled in Hawaii, and all the Big Heart retreats scheduled for this
year.

The class this Thursday evening, February 9th, will be held at the scheduled
time, 7:30 p.m., and will be moderated by Mark Esterman, assisted by Kanzeon
Board Members Mary Ellen Sloan and Chet Cannon.  The evening will be devoted to
hearing all who wish to express their feelings about the current situation
and/or their views about the future of the community.  Speakers will be limited
to a short period of time so that all may be heard.  The purpose is to hear
each other; not debate.  This meeting will not be recorded or broadcast.

Kelly Fogarty will speak at the scheduled Morning class this Sunday, February
13th.

Following that, at 1:00 p.m., there will be a Town Hall meeting led by Taido
Sensei, with the Members of the Zen Center Board. All those who are interested
in looking at the future of Kanzeon Zen Center Utah and the Sangha are invited
to come.
