Pain Management 1 – Stopping

We all have the experience of having experienced pain at certain moments in our
lives. How often have we be having pain in us and kept doing different
activities in the body and the mind without listen to our pain calling our
attention?. Some of us seem to only listen to it when the pain becomes a s
screaming child having a tantrum.

At the first sign of pain one should learn how to stop. Only when one knows how
to stop there wherever one is, the pain won't escalate at such high degrees of
hysteria. But if still by stopping escalates to higher levels of severity it
won't be the same as when one doesn't know how to stop. And by no meanings the
same if you are a practitioner or you are not, if you are in severe pain and
need to scream, cried out, go into tears...do it. And stay with it. Never try
to repress your pain in anyway. Very important to understand this. To repress
pain it only will make it worse.

Pain involves body and mind and therefore the awareness of the in and out
breathing used as the tool that unites body and mind is the most important tool
through pain management. The body on its own and separated from the mind can't
survive. What's happening to the body is also happening in the mind. And
viceverse. Therefore both have to be one working in a team. The body and the
mind has to become one sangha in harmony at those moments. And there is not
other way for that the awareness of the in and out breathing acting as the
bridge uniting both as one organism.

In order to stop:
1- One has to recognise that one is in pain . It's not exactly the same to have
pain as to have pain and being aware of having pain.
2- Acceptance that there is pain.
3- Staying with the pain.

At the first go of acknowledging pain and staying with it, one may experience
an increment level of pain. Don't be discouraged by that and stay with it even
if makes you yell, cry or scream. Express out any sound if that help you to
stay there with your pain. It's a natural response of the mind this apparent
incrementation of pain. That is the mind used to run away of pain which can't
handle now facing it. Stay with it. At a later stage you will find out that the
hardest is that moment of facing and staying with that pain, the most healing
energy at the same time you are getting into your body.

Have a resting day!
