Many Buddhists I've met from SE-Asia and SriLanka/Ceylon sit up and take notice when I mention that I'm Mahayana, and that I hold Zen beliefs. Their reaction(which is not exactly positive most of the time) never ceases to amuse me. I think that the Chinese also get wary when I tell them that I'm somewhat Japanese/Samurai-influenced in my beliefs
