Merle,
Your art reminds me of being a child when I used to really squeeze my
eyes tight and watch the resulting kaleidoscopic images
I used to do this as a kid too. First time I saw a Mandelbrot set, was
not the first time!
I was born in 1964, so I only have a very hazy memory of the 60s. I
can imagine that it was a revolutonary time, in more ways than one.
I'm grateful for that generation for trailblazing a path that made it
easier for my generation to follow (especially concerning drugs!).
However, although the 1950s and 1960s made the music of the 70s
possible, I think the pinnacle of popular music was reached in the
seventies (Encapsulated in bands like Led Zeppelin - Saw them in '79
where i smoked my first joint, btw).
Likewise, 2 years earlier.
Anyways, I enjoyed your art and can also see that mandalas have had an
influence on it. Not being a Zennist, I feel completely free to take
what I want from many teachings/traditions to inspire me and mandalas
have an ineffable effect on me. Paint on!
Again, I experience this similarly. I understand when teachers avoid
against "cherry picking" but I was never consciously seeking - and the
overlapping/coincidences of all the pointers is to me the clearest pointer.
Paint on indeed! Advice I would be well served to apply to myself - so
thanks again to Merle, and to you mike for these opportunities to reflect.
