Merle,

No, no pictures, pul-ease. No paintings, either. (but, pls. show me some,
later?).

Anyone who comes to Religion, or religious practice, or Zen practice, or
original Buddhism, at any time, is not to be faulted for not being born into a
religious family; nor, I think is to be faulted for not investigating religious
temples on street corners in our town before we could drive a car or buy a
pint. That sort of stuff is as scary to any kid as going to a Bank, or to the
Dentist. You can't just go on your own. Why would you? You know, folks would
not receive you well. And, they'd ask "WHERE are your PARENTS?" They would
not trust you as a free agent.

My Church was the Night Sky, even though I was born a Catholic and never missed
Mass with my whole family. By the time I was 10, I was a Naturalist, a
Scientist, a Philosopher, an Atheist, and very, very deeply religious. A
Mystic, one who trusts direct personal experience, and seeks ways to give it a
push. I did not find help for this in Church nor in Catechism, nor from
Clergy. I thank my lucky Stars!
