Howdy, Merle,

We call them "shavings", not chips.

Chips, or dust, is made by saws and routers, you know, and other cutters that
do not make shavings.

One wonders if he got into using shavings just in order to do something useful
with shavings, and thus to give them a second life, or if the shavings really
are the best medium for what he had in mind in his art.  Whichever, he
certainly uses them well.

Remarkable art!

(I like his homemade wood tools, too, especially the Caliper).

PS  I sent this by email because the group website will not allow posting,
today.
All day, when I tried to post from the site, I get "YAHOO! error '999' ".
Sounds like
a telephonic cry for help in London.  ;-)   My first emailed post: I hope it
works.
