Merle, That book probably has documented part of why the Western image of the Dalai Lama 'creeps me out'. (I'm beginning to really like that phrase - thanks Chris). I may present an inverse perspective of mine because he hasn't 'conquered' me yet, and if fact it's what I perceive as his marketing-type efforts to 'conquer' me that I object to. I do agree that even with all the nationalistic tactics, some which I considered ill-conceived and very tragic, he hasn't seemed to have swayed China.
