I'm surprised you don't have a wood stove instead of a fireplace with a blower. 
Much more effective and no dependence on electric. When I move in here, 33 
years ago, I put the largest wood stove (takes 24" logs) I could get right in 
front of my fireplace opening with the pipe horizontal up through the chimney. 
It's basically the only heat source I use and no dependency on the grid at 
all...

A bow to Ben Franklin, a real Zen master! Why? Because he understood the 
reality of the world of forms well enough to do something about it!
