A silver dime should be no problem...

Yeah, dimes are the way to go. Spending silver ounces would involve taking too much fiat-garbage in change, for most purchases. Also, the circulated character of old dimes makes them self-authenticating, whereas shiny new silver rounds, or even eagles, may someday be as problematic as gold-plated tungsten is becoming. Gold will be for the elites, and silver for the well-to-do. If I were young and just getting prepared, and could not afford to buy a lot of silver, I would hoard nickles: they are already worth more than face value, and will become important coins when an ounce of silver is worth the equivalent of a skilled worker's weekly wage.

Still, hoarded coinage is no substitute for a refuge with wood, water, gardens, orchards, etc... Are there any sanghas building such refuges, instead of faux-Japanese edifices? If there are, /their/ Senseis are the ones/I/ would want to study under, if I were at that stage of my life.
