Chris,
Wishing you well!
I have no info on the center at all, but I know it can't be too far from me in
Tucson. ;-) I mean, I think you may mean a center named San Diego Zen Center?
That's what I come up with from the acronym you quote. I have done no
research, and I don't know which lineage may be associated, there, or I have
forgotten. But if names are mentioned, perhaps I know some of the
personalities.
My main teacher was Sheng Yen, and while I've been in Arizona, I'd sometimes
call him up at the Ch'an Center in New York and tell him I was about to attend
sesshin here with certain teachers (which I did 3 or 4 times a year for several
decades). He'd always encourage me, and wanted me to keep up my practice. And
he'd always give me the same advice, although his English was elementary. He'd
say on the phone,
"Joseph!:
Don't go with a grasping mind, a mind wanting to gain anything; and...
Don't be in a hurry!"
To these, I nowadays add to my late teacher's advice:
Practice at EVERY opportunity, there;
Let everyone else practice, with no interference or overt help;
ENJOY the company of the others you are with;
Treasure this time to practice together, it is very rare;
Don't break any rules, unless it's the right thing to do;
Settle! Sink!! Relax!!!;
Sink. Sink.
I've already mentioned here that Sheng Yen regularly advised us in person to:
"Keep your feet warm, and your head cool."
Chris, if you go, I wish you a great sesshin!
