Edgar,
It's not me who's a Monastic. I escaped by the tartar on my teeth (in those
storied days).
I felt it's better to whip our friends into shape as One of Them.
Imagine the hubris.
I told my Shih-fu this, and he understood. But he wanted me as one of the
hundred-plus Precepts folk. Just because I woke up. I told him, "I know who
my Master is". He was just a part. It took a *lot* of gesticulating, but my
expression is articulate. His English was elementary, but he was a Genius.
And his heart was the size of a Texas-to-fill-the-Universe.
And I am obstinate, and know my own Mind. Put it that way.
At that point, we had the most-est-of-the-most-est respect for each other. He
taught me things to help me as a Lay Dharma Teacher, without Transmission.
So it continues, FOUR years after his passing, on Feb. 3rd, Taiwan Time.
RIP.
