Well, that's a relief and does shed a somewhat different light on it. Subhana 
has certainly put in the hours as a professional counsellor to charge what the 
hell she likes (I think many less economically able people would be able to 
claim a govt. rebate, too). As I said in an earlier post, I don't see such 
activities as teaching the Dharma, so it's no problem for me. My original 
concern still stands tho, that making a living solely from teaching the Dharma 
leads to exploitation and its corruption (I've even heard of some temples where 
they've stopped giving permission for students to record the talks due to 
copyright issues).

PS Let's not be too harsh on Merle because with no contact with Zen 
centres/teachers there would probably be a blur between the teacher's role 
there and their professional role as a helper. And she has certainly raised an 
important issue (although I feel personally bad that Subhana was lumped in with 
any issues I have with the unethical charging of money for the teaching of the 
Dharma).
