Bob, Merle,

Good point about the CO2 build up (and Gillard!).

Merle, you could use this situation as an excellent object of meditation. When
you feel this fear starting to arise go into it deeply. Where in the body do
you feel the sensations? Are they 'solid' sensations or more subtle? Do they
stay in one place or move location? Do they last along time or sometimes
completely disappear only to come back? Does your mind start making up
stories/movies about what is causing the fear or is it just a feeling beyond
words?

Eventually you might notice that everything you experience (physical-mental) is
in flux. It's like you've become a detached observer rather than a wallowed of
the emotion. With more practice you might experience a sense of equanimity even
tho the physical sensations of fear remain. It's an amazing opportunity for
further practice! I envy you!

Mike
