Merle, Dunno about "placing store". Some imbalanced folk become stuck with the way they are, and make it worse by trying to make themselves even better at being imbalanced.
Reason has been a good and benign tool for every one of us who has not used it against others or ourselves, except in certain just and justifiable wars, economic sanction punishment of nations, the slaughter of animals for food and skins, over-fishing the sea, and disposal of Methyl-Mercury in the ocean by Japan, a once-great Buddhist nation. Reason makes no discoveries of our true nature, again, because it is not an Observer. Wisdom, and True Compassion arise when the mad-mind stops and we dwell in our true nature. The mad-mind does not stop while movements of reasoning are underway. One may still talk about the heart, but while reasoning grinds its illusory gears there is never any Compassion, nor any Wisdom. That is the way our animal operates. Reason can do nothing about that, and is simply a runaway loco-motive in some people who have not learned what it is to be a Human Being. We should all be kind to them by telling them to get the hell off our Planet. --Joe > Merle Lester <merlewiitpom@...> wrote: > > joe..edgar,... and correct me if i am incorrect edgar places great store in > the rational mind it has obviously served him well through his journey in > life..has it not served us all well..however how he keeps hammering it as the > greatest of all tools for the zen experience is somewhat alien to me..he > never ever speaks of the heart...merle > > http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rationality ------------------------------------ Current Book Discussion: any Zen book that you recently have read or are reading!
