Ja, Bill!,

Yessir, impressive, but the first 6 are Law-based, as I wrote.

Two-point-oh, that of Grace, begins with J.C.

My Religion teacher Theodore Gaster at Barnard used to say:

"Paul was the Founder of Christianity; Jesus was its Victim!"

But Gaster was an infidel: the 13th son of the Chief Rabbi of London. Beloved
by all, or most. About Alan Watts, and his book THE WAY OF ZEN, Gaster said:

"I think he really UNDERSTOOD it!"

Gaster challenged our notions steadily in the Seminar class on "Language in
Religion". His most common rejoinder was, "Baloney!", spoken in his lovely
lilting English, ...or what should we call it here in the "States".

Elaine Pagels came to the Faculty soon after I studied with Gaster. She was
fresh from Harvey Cox, at Harvard, who'd been her Dissertation adviser. She
loved Gaster, too, and writes some recollections of him in her several books.

As I recall, Gaster died soon after the Great New York Blizzard of Feb. 1,
1977; I skied down Broadway then, from Columbia to the 20s, and, back, on my
Rossignol cross-country skis. There were skis and poles stuck upright in
drifts outside Banks, where customers left them, in full trust that they would
not be stolen while they dealt with Tellers inside. Imagine! In New York! It
was like the Yukon. People were good to each other. 27-inches, and the City
was shut down for a day.

Reminiscing,
