Dear Joe,

Thanks for the comments.

Yes! Enquiry is the only sadhana, I practice. Let there be any
number of practices for lay or monastic.

This is the only possibility for my present life style. Enquiry gave
me lot of insights and stillness.

Today if I am in this forum discussing with you all is just because of
this enquiry only.

Enquiry is also like negation of Buddha ‘Neti Neti”. Realizing and
removing this is not me this is not me, bring you to your own being
that is stillness.

I wrote that post in a Brahmin forum ( US Brahmin forum). Brahmins are
obsessed with rituals.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One wrote the following

The following basic Brahmin practices are common across all available
Smrutis, except for small detail differences.

1.. Trikala Sandya vandanam

2. Sammita dhanam

3. Oupasan

4. Jaata karma, nama karma.

5. Choulam

6. Upanayanam

7. Marriage as per Vedic rites

8. After death ceremonies extending to 13 days.

9. Masyam sodakumbha srardhams

10. Annual Sradhams.

11. Tarpanas during Amavasya and various other times.

12. Observing Rajaswala restrictions

13. Observing Janana Marana Asoucha restrictions.

14. Restrictions in eating purely prepared food with sattvic ingredients.

15. Need for visiting Punya shetras and Teerthas....etc...

Following the Sastras leads to a disciplined life. It gives mental
purity. Makes one fit to take up any other Sadhana of his choice.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Today’s life style not even 1% follows all these practices. All are
good in advising others never follow on their own.

Those practices may have benefits of their own if followed, but many
don’t do it with sincerity, they perform as if it is to be done with
no involvement and do many compromises.

My view is as long as body conscious is present there will be
suffering no matter what practice you follow.

The Buddha says End of suffering is possible, that means body
conscious can be removed from the pure consciousness which is you, the
real you.

The real you is ‘state of meditation’ or ‘no mind’. So it is possible
to directly enter meditation state from where ever you are, because
you are entering to your own reality. And enquiry or the negation
helps to come to your own state quickly.

Again this may not be possible for all. In Hinduism it is stated that
because of one’s previous life sadhana one may directly take up high
ladder on the spiritual path. If sadhana was not done in previous
life, it may not be easy for some to understand or even come close to
spiritual path.

For some these sadhanas may be required, for some these steps may not
have interest, they directly go into meditation.

Ramana Maharishi said enquiry is for all kinds of people whether they
are monastic or lay, because it is very simple. Only one needs
interest.

That interest to know or you heard of this practice and voluntarily
learn more and practice itself indicates your previous birth practice
since how many of them are seeking spiritual in this world?

My advice is for those who are already into spiritual path.

Best wishes
Suresh
