Despite all that can be said for it -- and I see there has been quite a lot 
said -- I would not recommend practicing for a near-death experience.  Better 
to practice Zen (or Chan).  At least you can do it with others.  And it is 
supported by good health -- and vice versa -- and not by extreme trauma and a 
medical environment.

And you can burn incense!  Try *that* in the Emergency Room.  ;-)
