To me it represented the experience of Buddha Nature. A period is sometimes referred to as a 'full stop', and that's what necessary sometimes to first experience Buddha Nature - a full stop of your intellect.
Although a better representation would just be an empty space, but that doesn't show up too well in a type-oriented forum like this. Oh, and Edgar - if you aren't sure just what I'm talking about it's because it's a metaphor, so don't think too much about it.
