Sebastian,
Yeah, my knowledge of Zeno are brief,(The web link didn't work)but remember, this was the same guy who said because the 1/2 plus 1/2 of 1/2 plus 1/2 of 1/2 of 1/2 doesn't equal 1, then there is no such thing as motion :) It seems a lot of people have gotten to the conclusion "It is" -- its progressing beyond that (or learning to stop right there, perhaps) that seems to be what all the fuss is about :> Rod Scholl -----Original Message----- From: Sebastian Ortiz Duran Gochicoa [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, September 28, 2004 4:16 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [Zen] The Means and the End "I'm not quite sure how one goes from this logical realization to the action of living as though it was only means that exist (living in the moment) -- but I mean to ferret it out :)" Actually I came to this exact same conclusion and am trying to ferret out the exact same thing. May we cast our swords aside and make use of this common ground? I think it has a lot to do with linguistics as well. In grammar school you are taught that sentences follow Subject-Verb-Object. This is the dominant sequence. S-V or V are variants. We are taught that actions must have an objective. Setting goals, planning ahead... Aristotle may have screwed us over. Perhaps if he had paid a little more attention to Zeno of Elea, things would be different. http://www-gap.dcs.st-and.ac.uk/~history/Mathematicians/Zeno_of_Elea.htm l No time, no motion, no matter. You'd think it would be easy to just melt into infinity. What would a society based on infinity be like?
