Hey mac and all Sangha, Did you find what you wanted on meditation? Meditation posture and technique can be taught in a few minutes. Most people don't stay with any practice. You are probably finding out that you will get advice all the way from specific techniques, breathing, the jhanas, guru visualization, kensho, and more, all the varieties of Buddhist meditation. Meditation posture and technique can be taught in a few minutes. Most people don't stay with the practice, that's the thing.
Interesting that you brought up about gradual learning, that is lamrim, and you might benefit from some study there. A website with lamrim teachings that I recommend highly, which has both free printed teachings and audio, is http://www.thubtenchodron.org There is even an outline in the index that shows you step by step which tapes/teachings to listen to. Ven. Chodron is an American and easy to listen to. It's Mahayana, and you seem to have an open mind to all Buddhist learning right now. Not only is there diversity of teachings in the various schools and sects of Buddhism, there are Western hybrids all over the place! If you explore the Internet, you will find people who have given a title to their school and are the self-appointed leader. Here's an example: http://www.everydayzen.org/ I do believe Fudo follows an authentic Zen practice and in that regard, has much to teach us. If you are getting your feelings hurt from his posts, try to look at those feelings. Don't you find it intriguing that he's been posting with all words capitalized, like headlines? Zen is not a "positive, ego free" religion. You have to find out what it is for you.
