Hi Jacqueline,

As a practicing Buddhist, here is what I think:

There is no need to view Rod's suggestions in the
confrontational light. It is understandable, when
reprimanded, to feel a bit offended. However, here
there really is no ground for that.

Consider this: the Buddha himself never waved any
Buddhist flags. Furthermore, he never instructed his
followers to build magnificent temples and huge golden
statues portraying him.

And yet, his followers did precisely that. Foolish
people! The point that we, long time Buddhist
practitioners, would sometime like to stress is --
unfold the Buddhist flag in your heart. There's really
no need to wear it on your sleeve.

Buddhist practice boils down to self-cultivation.
Forget about others and focus on cultivating your own
insight. In time, the distinction between the outer
and the inner world will pale for you and will
eventually disappear from your mind. When that
happens, you won't be that concerned about your
situation.

Best of luck!

Alex

P.S. I honestly loved Rod's suggestion of turning the
potential confrontation into the 'night on town'
bowling rampage. Way to go, Rod! One of the wisest
things I've read on this list.
