Hi Diana

I'd agree that if we try to do something like "get rid" of thoughts or ego, 
that won't work.  But if ego is seen for what it is (ideas revolving around 
self-grasping), then we can let go of it, and the pattern eventually 
loosens and fades.

Dogen put it best.  "To study Buddhism is to study the self. To study the 
self is to forget the self. To forget the self is to be enlightened by all 
things. To be enlightened by all things is to be free from attachment to 
the body and mind of one's self and of others."
