It is not a question of being soft. It is a question of being intelligent. Knowing when to defend yourself is a basic survival skill. There is no point to being verbally abused by somebody just for the sake of his amusement. Having your practice rocked or derailed by a skilled Teacher for a good reason may be constructive.
