Maybe you sit to do zazen and your head and stomach ache... people always say, "MY head hurts, MY stomach hurts" Any one of us will continue to describe about every part of the body... "MY hair is brown" "MY bones ache" "MY muscles are cramped" "MY eyes are blue" "MY brain has a tumor" "MY throat... MY jaw... MY blood... MY heart ....... and so on. After every body part has been covered, what part of our bodies is the ME? Where are WE in the body? Instead of saying, "my head/stomach hurt when I sat down to do zazen" maybe try saying "this head hurt" and "this stomach ached" or "there is this ache" and remember that these are passing. What happens when you are doing zazen and you feel an itch, it passes. So do cramps and aches. So does the body itself, breath by breath.
In fact, the breath can be traced from "outside" the body into the mouth, to the throat, to the lungs, and then the blood, so where is the line really? As we sit in a house we are "outside", in the walls of the house breathing the same air. Earth is in outer space, so aren't we in space, on earth? There is only a gradual change in the density of air. There is no line. Regarding the old post about zen and comedy, Jeff Foxworthy had a bit about the experience of a fish getting caught out of the water being probably the closest thing to an out of body experience that a fish could have. Any thoughts on these subjects? (Any help with some clearer language use maybe?)
