I think so. I like to think I'm practicing Zen Buddhism but haven't
formally taken any precepts nor do I intend to in the foreseeable
future. 

The precepts Jaqueline quoted are rather overly strict, IMHO. I've seen
broader ones. In his book _Hardcore Zen_ Brad Warner quotes
Bodhidharma's, which are much broader.

And, if I may be so bold, thoughtful. Precepts that only a renunciate
could follow in the real world have little value for regular folks.
