Jamie Foxx did the Tookie movie. Now Jamie can carry the torch for Tookie, and that carries a lot more clout if Tookie is seen as a martyr than if Tookie is seen as a murderer.
The fact is that Tookie never helped the Police solve any murders committed by his gang or to apprehend a single Crips gang member. Tookie wrote children's books with the help of professional ghost writers hired by the people who were pushing Tookie and his movie and biography. Tookie is a whole lot of smoke and mirrors, and if you need to get your inspiration from cold-blooded killers; I guess that is more power to you. I prefer to get my inspiration from decent, hard-working people who have had to bust their ass working their entire lives, being responsible, supporting their families, and otherwise being real heroes. The people who have never gone to the Quickie-Mart and killed an entire family for $100. and some beer. I hope I am not offending you, but seeing evil people glorified as heroes and martyrs cheapens the sacrifices of all the people who have made great sacrifices in the history of mankind (and who were not executed for murdering a family in exchange for beer money).
