Hi Dave,

OK - I understand.  Make sense I guess, given that constraint! :-)

Tim,

I agree it’s not necessary, but in my environment I’ve had issues in the past with my corp network team complaining about chatter on the network which was caused by clusters keeping themselves active.  It sounds stupid I agree, especially with type of HA that zen uses but with the crossover cable I know that won’t be the case and it’s one less thing I have to be worried about  J

Subject: Re: [Zenloadbalancer-support] Question about Cluster management in V2

Hi Dave,

I don't think using a crossover cable is necessary; maybe keep things simpler ?

My HA cluster pairs of ZenLoadBalancer,

- KVM based VMs (with virtio ether and disk - well supported on debian:ZLB)
- single network interface for each ZLB node
- multiple virtual interfaces on each physical interface, managed via zlb web management gui, ie,

eth0 = actual IP for device
eth0:1 = VIP for the HA pair / web admin access
eth0:3 = VIP for farm service one in ha config
eth0:6 = VIP for farm service two in ha config

I suspect you could use multiple physical interfaces if you really wanted, as follows,

eth0 = actual IP for device
eth0:1 = VIP for the HA pair / web admin access
eth1:1,2,3,4 = VIPs for for various farm services

clearly eth0 and eth1 need to cable into different subnets or vlans to ensure traffic goes where appropriate (management vs public).  This would segregate your management access from load-balance:farm traffic.

Hey all,

Just a question.

I have created my cluster config using a x-over cable between the two nodes and configured a VIP on that network.  I’ve also configured a couple of other networks for links to the Web servers for instance, and a VIP for the front channel facing the web.  What I’m wondering is that, is there any way to have a management network so that I can get to both cluster devices ?  Once I enable the cluster I lose all network connections to the 2ndary device except the one interface that is back to back with the x-over cable.
