Gratuitous arp may not be learned if send as multicast.

I know that on Nokia firewalls (now Checkpoint) you have a checkbox to
accept mac address learning this way.

Check with wireshark/tcpdump what's happening (send/received)

Mac address should be the virtual one and so does not change.
Only switch have to learn that the virtual mac is now on another port.

What is your switch/router model ? Manageable ?
