You can disable SNMP monitoring for the device. But let's see if we can
figure out the problem.
Is the community string for this device correctly set?
Several months ago, Zenoss had a problem if a device sent back the SNMP
data from a different IP address than the GET request for the data.
That's fixed in one of the patches to twistedsnmp. If this did not
patch correctly, you will still have that problem.
If the switch is on a different LAN, some device in the middle might be
truncating packets. A large switch has lots of data to monitor, and so
the responses might be getting corrupted.
So... how to diagnose this?
If we strace zenperfsnmp we can watch it talk to the switch and see what
is coming back:
strace -s 1000 zenperfsnmp run -v 10 -d my-cisco-pix-515-device
2>/tmp/trace
Take a look at /tmp/trace. You will see a bunch of sendto() calls with
the router's IP address.
If you don't see any recvfrom() calls, your community string is bad, or
there's a communications problem.
If you see recvfrom() and the IP address is different, twistedsnmp isn't
patched properly.
If you see recvfrom() with the proper IP, the packet was probably trashed.
You can reduce the size of data in each SNMP request by changing
MAX_OIDS_PER_REQUEST = 40
in $ZENHOME/Products/ZenRRD/zenperfsnmp.py. Let me know what you find,
or if you need additional help.
