I have recently installed Zenoss version 1.0.2 on Ubuntu 6.06 LTS and did not appear to have any trouble. I have successfully configured users and devices. Under the user config I have set the smtp host to a remote smtp server and have successfully sent test messages. I have configured a user as an administrator of a small number of objects/devices for testing purposes. I have configured a postgresql service monitor for one of these devices. Things are going good at this point. I block access to postgresql and a critical event is generated as it should be. The trouble comes when I try to set up email alerting. I have created an alerting rule called "Service Down". This rule has been configured in the following manner:
Delay (secs) = 0 Enabled = True Action = email Address (optional) = <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Where Production State = Production Severity >= Error Event State = New I realize that the email address is optional and have tried with an without an address here. At this point I think I have configured everything needed for email alerting. I force the postgresql event again and wait for an email that never appears. I have thoroughly searched the mailing list archives along with the general internet looking for an answer. The first results pointed me to the zenactions.conf file. After looking at my Zenoss config files it appears they are all empty. Unfortunately the conf.example files are empty also. I have looked through the Zenoss log files for any reference to email and found nothing. I am extremely impressed with Zenoss and would like nothing more than to get the alerting lined out. Are there any suggestions on additional places to look or configuration changes that I should make?
