This isn't as easy as it seems. We need to be able to mix auto-
discovered information with manually entered information. We have a
way to do this worked out but need to implement it. I hope to do
this for 1.2.

Just a bump for this. I see that some description fields have an edit
link (maybe they were always there and I never noticed them before),
but the description field on an IpInterface page doesn't. Could this
be added at some time in the future?
