I'm hoping the solution isn't to install a newer net-snmp, because I like 
getting security updates from Redhat rather than having to compile my own every 
time they find a vulnerability in net-snmp.

I am now positive this affects Redhat 3 systems because I looked through the 
zenperfsnmp logs and see only my Redhat 3 systems listed there:
