Wayne,
This is a somewhat confusing aspect of Zenoss, and it's going to get
a whole lot easier in the next release. I'll try my best to explain
it...
Zenoss has the concept of "Device Classes". Those are the
hierarchical paths you see like /Server/Linux and /Printer/
HPLaserJet4000.
A "Device Class (/Printer/HPLaserJet4000)" has a set of "Performance
Templates" associated with it. The Performance Templates define what
information zenoss should collect from devices that are placed into
the Device Class associated with the performance template. Within
the Performance Template there is a special "Device" section that
people often confuse with the /Devices list. Think of the "Device"
within the "Performance Template" as defining the host-level
information.
Performance Templates are inherited from the Device Class hierarchy.
If you don't create a Performance Template at the /Printer/
HPLaserJet4000 level you're going to get the Performance Template
from /, which is labeled as /Devices.
Hope this helps. It's very confusing...

I created a new class for HP 4000 series printers under /Devices/
Printers and added a performance template named hplj4000. The
performance template definition path is
/Devices/Printer/HPLaserJet4000. Myhplj4000 performance template
has a single datasource that queries for total page count, and a
graph to show the total page count.
When I add a device into the new class, I would have expected that
the PerfConf tab would show the RRDTemplate to be /Devices/Printer/
HPLaserJet4000 but it always shows /Devices. My custom hplj4000
performance template is not listed.
Why is the RRDTemplate for all devices in the class /Devices/
Printer/HPLaserJet4000 not set to /Devices/Printer/HPLaserJet4000?
How do I set it correctly?
Thanks
Wayne
