Okay.  So instead of using that, I guess the choices are to create a
separate subclass for each of the pairs of events, or set their class
keys to be the same and sequence the events (like the default

The interaction between event classes and the zEventClearClasses
property is the only mechanism Zenoss uses for it's auto-clearing
behavior. The sequence has nothing to do with it, and I believe those
default link up/down events are not auto-clearing. If you have a lot
of traps/logs that you want to do auto-clearing it will be work to set
it up at first, but I doubt all 650 of these traps you're looking at
could have auto-clearing behavior associated with them. A lot of them
can probably be consolidated into the same event classes as well.
