I am interested in this topic as well. I will use a simple example:

server-------FWc--------(internet)---------FWm--------ZOS

server=192.168.1.34
FWc= public IP is 66.32.45.11 (this is just and example I have no idea who
has this IP
FWm= public IP is 76.43.182.10 (again, just an example)
ZOS= zenoss server with IP 172.16.10.10

So, what I would like to do, is put the Zen modeling agents and all of
that on a box behind FWc so I can monitor "server" and other devices on
that network. I would like to have the Zenoss services connect to a
database on box ZOS via tunnels that I can worry about. What I want to
know is, what do I need to do to the monitoring box behind FWc and to the
database on ZOS to make this happen? Ultimately, I would like to have
FWc, FWc1, FWc2 etc, multiple remote networks monitored in the same way,
so I wonder if I would need multiple databases (assuming some of my remote
networks use the same IP addressing scheme and so might conflict) or is
the Zenoss database able to handle multiple devices with the same IPs on
different networks?

As I said, I can handle tunnels, I can even handle doing multiple
databases, though I would really like to be able to use one interface to
monitor these various networks. What I most need help with in getting
started is what do I do to set up the remote monitor box to send its data
to mysql on another server? I have worked with some php web apps that use
globals files to define database connections, is there something like that
I should be looking for?
