the remote monitors can just push everything back to your central zenoss box, at least thats the way it looks. and i dont see what the issue with the vpn is, you can force this traffic into the encryption domain so it will be transmitted via the vpn as well? it should be possible, unless you have some odd setup. a vpn is definatly not a reason in and of itself to not be able to do it.
