I am having trouble determining how to configure the Zenoss GUI tool to poll my
company's hardware device. The device I would like to perform SNMP queries
towards is a recording device created by my company which has an IP address of
10.0.0.2 Our company created our own MIB file for our device which our device
obviously supports, so I am now trying to connect to the device using Zenoss to
run our specific SNMP MIB requests to gather information from our device and
eventually be able to generate graphs as well based on certain SNMP values
returned over time.

I downloaded the Zenoss software as well as the VMWare software. I installed
the VMWare software on my Windows machine and was able to open the Mozilla
browser and bring up the Zenoss Core application page (by entering the address
provided by the VMWare software). Within the VMWare window, I loaded my MIB
file using the zenmib command. As a result, the MIB file contents are now
listed within the Zenoss Core application when I click on the "Mibs" link
listed under the "Management" section of the application.

Finally, I confirmed I can issue SNMP requests successfully to our device by
manually typing in the SNMP command syntax (ie: snmpwalk -v 2c etc... etc..)
manually inside of the VMWare command window at the prompt provided. The
results of the SNMP query is displayed and the data looks good.

Now, I would like to be able to configure the Zenoss Core application to
perform these SNMP queries for me automatically and be able to create some
graphs based on some of the SNMP data received over time. I am assuming this
is what the Zenoss Core application provides, but I just can not figure out how
to configure it to poll by device for me.

I am assuming I would first need to add a new device (by clicking on "Add
Device"), then associate some SNMP commands to this new device and finally tell
the Zenoss Core application which response SNMP values it should monitor for me
over time. Is this correct thinking?

I tried to "Add Device" but could not figure out what to do. I believe I read
somewhere the "Device Name" field should be the IpAddress of the device (ie:
10.0.0.2) but then I have no idea what to select for "Device Class Path" to
represent m company's specific device. I tried different selections but
nothing seems to work. It actual seems like the Zenoss Core application is
trying to access my device (via 10.0.0.2) and trying to load all of the device
information automatically, but nothing ever happens .... it just hangs there.
Anyway, is this what should happen when adding a device? If so, how does
Zenoss Core application know to check for my company's specific device .....
since I am sure it does not know about it currently.

Anyway, any information from anyone which would explain how I can configure the
Zenoss Core application with my company's device would be very helpful.
Possibly recommend what overall steps I must perform so I can understand how
Zenoss Core actually should be configured.
